§ About
Art Birth
Ceramics.
ART BIRTH CERAMICS is a creative ceramics label
where tradition and innovation converge.
Born in Mino, Japan — a region with over 1,300 years of pottery heritage.
§ I. Philosophy
We bridge soil and studio.
We work across hand-building, machine forming, and printing techniques to propose ceramic objects in tune with contemporary life.
Starting from the sensibility of the individual artist, we collaborate with the mass-production factories of Mino to build a system that spans one-of-a-kind pieces all the way to industrial production. The result is a value that crosses art and industry.
We embrace ceramic — a material that is nearly 100% recyclable — as a medium for sustainable making. Our aim is to create new ways to bring richness and beauty into daily life.
§ II. Founder
Shota Miyashita
Ceramic artist · Founder, ARTBIRTH Inc.
Rooted in the Mino pottery district, Shota combines the sensibility of an artist with the technical capacity of regional factories to propose new value in ceramic. His practice ranges from clay and glaze design to handwork, machine forming, 3D printing, silkscreen and transfer printing, and recycled-material technology.
As director of the G-E-N brand, he produces collaborations between artists and the factories of Maruchosei-toh and Ichiyo-toen. With the HINOMIYA brand he co-creates kiriko-style porcelain with sculptor Hijiri Tougane, using pressure casting and 3D-data carving.
§ III. Care & Shipping
On how to live with ceramic.
§ Shipping
On shipping
Production schedules, weather, and shipping congestion may delay delivery. Estimated arrival is updated on the store. Thank you for your patience.
§ When metal marks appear
Metal marks
Metal cutlery sometimes leaves pencil-like gray marks where it meets the glaze. This is friction between metal and the surface, not a quality issue. A melamine sponge or a citric-acid soak removes them.
§ Stains & odors
Stains & odors
Soak in a baking-soda solution, or in a chlorine- or oxygen-based bleach. Some glazes are sensitive to bleach — please test on an inconspicuous spot first.
§ Microwave
Microwave
Avoid overheating or running the microwave dry. Sudden temperature changes cause cracks; do not chill the piece immediately after heating.
§ Oven & open flame
Oven / open flame
Never place in the oven or on an open flame — sudden temperature changes will damage ceramic.
